Headed to Haiti

January 16, 2010

I know your heart has been moved over the last week as the tragedy in Haiti unfolded before our eyes. The needs are overwhelming, the resources extremely limited and the infrastructure almost non-existent. It has been so moving to watch the world respond…the Chinese, first on the scene, the Belgian search and rescue teams looking through rubble for survivors, the Israeli medical contingency and our own government’s massive relief effort, to mention just a few. As the search and rescue efforts continue, the major needs of the Haitian people are for shelter, food and water and medical care. I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Haiti Monday morning with a 10-member surgical team from Samaritan’s Purse. We will stay two weeks, working mostly at a fully functioning (but depleted in supplies) Baptist Hospital 4 miles from the center of Port-au-Prince. They have 200 patients presently awaiting us for surgical care. Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti. Please keep our team in your prayers as well. If possible, I will keep you updated on my time there. If you would like to make a donation to the Haitian relief effort…please go to the Lakewood website. Many blessings! Paul

We love to hear the work you do, and will continue to pray for you and your family here as you assist in clearing up this devastation. You are certainly an inspiration to us.

Thank you Dr. Paul for your truly altruistic spirit. I’ve been praying for you since you told us Sunday you were going to Haiti. I’ve been watching CNN for you or word of your group. Thank you also to your family for their sacrifices. God truly blesses us in health care right? I turn patients TV to Lakewood services when possible. Take care.

We have had many earthquakes in El Salvador. It is very frustrating when the only thing available to remove rubble to look for people is your hands.
Thank God there are people like you and your family who are willing to leave the comfort of your own home, to go and help complete strangers, but brothers and sisters under God.
Protection and wsidom for you and your team are permanently prayed for to Almighty God.
HE CAN MAKE A WAY FOR THE HAITIANS TO BE VICTORS AND NEVER VICTIMS… even under these circumstances, right?
    Blessings to all.

Dear Paul & Jennifer & family:

My thoughts went immediately to you and Jennifer wondering if you’d be given the opportunity to assist with the people of Haiti and there God has placed you!! Glory to His name. Thoughts and prayers for your strength, energy, and endurance while practicing with the team there for the two weeks. It is different when you “hold them in your hands & arms” God’s healing hands working through yours what a gift and a blessing to those in the hospital and all you come in contact on your journey. Your visit in the shop was such a blessing, maybe you can bring your children up to the studio and create some things next time you both make the trip!!
God Bless & Keep you! (Isa. 64:8 on the bottom of your coffe mug)

    Dear Dr. Paul,
Wonderful to read about your work in Haiti. I am from MA and one of my former teachers regularly runs missions there and has a school, and has told me about many of the people there; perhaps you are helping some of our friends directly. It’s wonderful to think of all that you are doing, being the hands and feet of Christ ministering to the world so much in need! May God bless and multiply all of your efforts. You and the people of Haiti are of course in my daily prayers!

    Dr. Osteen,
You saved my life in April of 1998 in LR, AR. You told me that I almost went to be with Jesus twice and that I have a purpose in my life. I can never thank you enough for all that you have done for me and I know the people of Haiti will be just as thankful to have you there saving lives! I will be praying for you, your family, and the Haitian people. God bless you as you carry out His work.
    Thank you so much!

I just wanted to tell you how happy and proud I am to be a part of Lakewood. I love everything Lakewood stands for, how much our church loves on others and how we run to help in times of trouble. You and your family are such an example to all.
